During our straw bale vault workshops, participants are trained in all phases of construction from site location to earthen floor construction. We now have a small network of diverse women who are able to build straw bale vaulted structures.
If you want to hire one of our graduates to lead a workshop
in your area, or build you a vaulted structure,

This is the building that piqued our interest in vaults.. It is one of the first vaulted straw bale structures built. The structure sits on an experimental gravel bag foundation. The front (the red part) is made of cob. The bamboo came from a grove in Woodside CA. The species is Phylostachys nigra 'Henon'. This vaulted straw bale cottage in Point Reyes Station,
CA, was designed by Daniel Smith and
Associates Architects in collaboration with Penny Livingston-Stark
of the Permaculture Institute of Northern California.. The bale raising
was completed in a weekend workshop |
