.."Women protesting apartheid" is a study of protestors in South Africa for my Mandela painting.

.. My current art project is to do a 3 panel painting of the miraculous Mandela metamorphosis from "Kaffir" to political prisoner to president. It really is a big project.

.. I read some books about Africa; some about Nelson Mandela, and Barbara Kingsolver's Poisonwood Bible. I also read Meriam Mekaba's autobiography for a woman's viewpoint of South Africa.

.. I sketched digitally with my pressure sensitive tablet in photoshop because I'm using photoshop to layer the parts of the composition. When I get everything sized and placed where I want them, then I'll print out a simple outline and transfer the composition to my gessoed panels and build up the surface with oil paint.
