The process:
...I've always loved ink washes. Here, I used black and brown inks for variety. Later, I added texture with a soft very black pencil.
...Sketching on location tends to bring out the literalness in me, but I do enjoy doing it "out there" despite its discomforts and distractions.
...This isn't digital art; it's art that's been digitized or put into digital format. I've adjusted the scan to match the original as closely as I can.

The subject
...My friend and I took a break during a backpacking trip in Northern California, probably the Mokelumne Wilderness.. It was a beautiful day and basking in the high mountain sun made it even better. I love the character of the water tank with the old pipe winding its way down the granite. It's part of a series of rustic subjects that make good greeting cards or small framed prints in a peaceful setting.
