Artist's statement: "I did this egg tempera painting when I lived in Northern CA. This Soldier Mountain is near Fall River Mills, the old mill being on the left here. It was magical and scary to witness the fire. My daughters and I were on our way to soccer practice, only this day we had to take the back road only to find practice was soon canceled also due to the fire. We would've arrived sooner if the sky wasn't compelling me to stop and take so many photos!" Sandy D. Rice
