See article index	Gulf Poor Update The letter below was generated by the "color of change" group. I encourage you to support them. It is easy to become discouraged when you hear of FEMA tearing down much of the low income housing in New Orleans and refusing to reopen schools. The continuing "slap in the face" to the the poor and displaced along the gulf coast says government racism and economic discrimination runs rampant still. Friends, When I saw the folks who were left behind when Hurricane Katrina struck, I was shocked, saddened, angered and ashamed. I knew what I saw was wrong. Now I'm determined to do what I can to make sure this never happens again. I wanted to let you know about a group that recently formed to make that happen. I just signed on to their pledge, and I wanted to invite you to do the same. ColorOfChange.org is working to mobilize a group of 250,000 people - Black folks and their allies -- who are willing to take a simple pledge: to protect those of us who are struggling at the margins, to make sure they're not left behind again, and to help them gain a political voice\ You can read more and sign it, here: http://www.colorofchange.org When a large number of us speak up in a loud voice, it's hard to ignore.
